The Wounded Healer
how embracing your wound can transform your pain into your purpose
My astrology study buddy recently asked me what my favorite focus is for readings. We went to an astrology school that was heavily focused on Saturn and that where your Saturn is can show you your karmic life lessons and where we are maturing.
While I loved zeroing in on such a serious planet, my answer was Chiron. She laughed and said how water sign of me. Of course out of all the aspects to look at in the natal chart, I choose the wound.
Why? Because I love an emotional deep dive. I love looking at how the wound is actually one of life’s greatest unlocks. I love how the the wound shows us where and how to heal, and ultimately how we can help others.
We can see this in healers, teachers, leaders, and even parents. When we get in contact with what really hurt us, find a way to work with it and heal it, we naturally want to give this gift to others. We want to show the way forward.
The beauty of understanding our birth chart is to see the opportunities to grow and evolve. It can help us find more balance, to feel seen and to feel less fragmented.
I never wanted to become the type of astrologer that is pessimistic and lays out your challenges in a daunting way. I want you to see yourself more clearly, to embrace what makes you unique and to work with the tension and the wounds.
So what is Chiron?
Chiron is a celestial body, not a planet. It represents the wound that shapes your life and the gift that emerges when you work with it consciously. It's where your greatest challenges often become your greatest teachings.
So in your natal chart reading we would look at what sign it sits in (don’t confuse this with your sun sign) A brief overview looks like this:
Aries = the wound of existing
Taurus = the wound of deserving
Gemini = the wound of being heard
Cancer = the wound of feeling safe
Leo = the wound of shining
Virgo = the wound of perfection
Libra = the wound of love
Scorpio = the wound of vulnerability
Sagittarius = the wound of meaning
Capricorn = the wound of success
Aquarius = the wound of belonging while being different
Pisces = the wound of surrender
And, it will also have its own distinct flavour based on which house it sits in. For example:
My Chiron sits in Gemini in the 7th house. So the wound of being heard or understood (Gemini) as it pertains to relationships (7th House).
And isn’t it funny that I’ve built an entire career around using my voice? I’ve written a book, recorded dozens of podcast episodes, spoken on stages around the world, and spend my days teaching and giving readings. My work is incredibly relationship based and often one on one.
But, there have been so many moments where I’ve questioned myself. If I say what I truly mean, will people still like me? Will they misunderstand me? Will I disappoint someone? Can I trust my own voice, especially in my relationships?
For years, I thought I needed to soften my words, explain myself more clearly, or shapeshift into the version of me that everyone else would understand. Hello me in my twenties in romantic realtionships!
But Chiron doesn’t ask us to avoid the wound. It asks us to meet it consciously.
Over time, I’ve realized that my voice isn’t here to be universally liked. It’s here to be authentic. And every time I choose honesty over approval, I heal a little more. That’s the beautiful paradox of Chiron.
The place that hurts the most often becomes the place we’re here to contribute the most. Where we spin it, becomes our magic.
Hence why I became a writer. A teacher. A podcaster. An astrologer.
Not because I never doubted my voice but because learning to trust it became one of the greatest journeys of my life. And in helping others find language for their own experiences, I’ve found my own medicine.
Another great example is my husband Bill. Bill has Chiron in Cancer in the 11th house—the wound of belonging.
At its core, this placement can carry a deep sensitivity around feeling emotionally safe within friendships, community, or the groups we find ourselves a part of. There can be a longing to find your people, to feel at home, and to know that you’re truly accepted for who you are.
So let’s look at how Bill healed and evolved it. Bill is someone who is creating exactly what his soul may have been searching for all along: a place where people gather, connect, slow down, and feel like they belong.
Our hotel wont be just a building. It’s a community. A home away from home. A space where strangers become friends, where conversations unfold around the dinner table, and where people leave feeling more connected than when they arrived.
He is literally the visionary behind our hotel becoming a place of belonging. He has built a career in hospitality that makes all of his guests feel like they belong!
That’s the gift of Chiron.
Sometimes the place that once felt the most tender becomes the place where we’re able to offer the greatest healing! Not because the wound disappeared, but because we’ve learned how to transform it into something that serves others.
Cool, right?!
So you can see how reading and interpreting this placement can be incredibly insightful and helpful.
Often when I read client’s wound they say something like, “ouch, ya that’s so real.” It feels like someone has seen into our deepest part and shared it so plainly. They can see how it keeps coming up, this old childhood wound, and how much it still plays a role in their life. This is where I can help support, coach and offer advice on ways to transform and heal this part of you. To turn the wound into your gift! This is why I love readings so much. I am truly so passionate about this part.
Ironically, in my twenties, I had a post it note on the inside of my bathroom mirror of the Rumi quote, “the wound is where the light enters.” I used it as a reminder to embrace where I hurt and shed light on it. And from that light I was able to heal. And from that healing I was able to help.
If you want to explore this wound and many other fascinating aspects about you (life lessons, soul purpose, abundance) I just opened my August books for readings.
After August, I will have very limited reading space as my travel picks up in a big way until the end of the year and well into 2027. So grab your spot before I go on hiatus :)
You can book here.
love, ally
