Wednesday, May 8th at 6pm PST marks a very special moment of firsts. This will be my first live podcast recording…interviewing my mom AND showcasing her incredible art for the first time.
It is a homecoming in more ways than one. Each time I come back to Vancouver I remember a little more about myself. Stepping off the plane into the fresh Pacific Northwest air, I feel a little more me. Time spent with my mother is seminal to my existence. Each of us passing wisdom, laughter and inspiration back and forth. It comes also with the pushing of buttons, making the unseen seen and revealing the stickier places of the mother daughter wound. We are always better for it.
It is these types of conversations I wish to reveal to the world. Whether you have a mother, love or hate your mother, are a mother, wish to become a mother. They are the conversations that unblock the spirit and allow for mending within each of us. My mother was my first home and to return her again and again is my lifeblood.
To share a conversation with you, in front of you, scares the shit out of her and likely me too when I slow down enough to think about it. And with the addition of sharing her art, I know I have pushed her to a limit. But she said yes! I believe deeply her voice and her art needs to be witnessed. For so long she has lived in the shadows of our family, as most mothers do. They are the wind beneath our wings, sacrificing their expression and art for their families. So in many ways this is a reclamation for her and for all mothers.
So it’s bigger than just the event, you see. I can’t quite articulate it but this is something we MUST do. I had the idea and tossed it aside, but it kept tugging on me each and everyday. So here it is, an offering. A scare-the-shit-out-of-us kind of offering. One where we show up and say, ‘here’s who we are, here’s how we survive life, here’s how it is messy, beautiful, here is how we sustain life.’ Through art, laughter, tears and communication. Our medicines, to share with you.
I am very excited to be hosting this event at my dear friend, Adri’s space AO Studio. There a limited number of tickets, so don’t wait!

My mother’s art is inspired by nature, peace, tranquility and her time spent in the Prairies and Maritimes. Her work evokes the viewer to deepen their breath, to awaken to beauty and to find ease in transitions. From her soothing oceanic horizons to her bold and robust flowers, her work elicits the feeling of freedom, expression and harmony.
I hope you can make it. I would to see you in person and share my amazing mother with you,
xo Ally
