The first day of Fall is on her way. Sept 23rd. The first day of Libra Season. A time where day and night are equal. I love the Fall Equinox, it is a sweet time of harvest and reflection that beckons us to look at our own internal balance to see how far we’ve come. It is a time of letting go, just like the leaves around us.
Nature is the greatest teacher. She so gracefully teaches us the Life Death Life Cycle. You see, it can’t be summer forever and yet we hold on. You see this reflected in our society. If Spring and Summer represent beauty, fertility, long and bright days, then you can see why we cling so hard. These are the qualities that society values. These seasons are bold and alluring, they drive the desire to be out and doing. They showcase youth and freshness. However, it’s the same youth, freshness and constant doing that can drive us mad. Why? Because we are ourselves cannot maintain Summer forever. We age, we need rest, we need time to recalibrate and reflect. Nature has her perfect plan and yet we combat it. I myself can feel the gentle fear of the sun setting earlier in the day, the same way I have been taught to fear my own wrinkles or my own rest.
It is when I align with the natural process of things I can see the beauty in it. The light is changing in the morning, the slight chill in the air. I look at my own almost 37 year old face and appreciate the wisdom that peers back at me. I feel a pang of shame for the times I have wanted to stop this process. We cannot. The Life Death Life cycle trudges on. We can’t escape it.
Instead, we must embrace it. We must see that if we align with the seasons changing around us, we can align with the seasons of our own lives. How beautiful and utterly necessary it is to reflect, let go, and harvest the bounty of our actions. As the portal opens to more darkness, rather than more light, can we see the medicine of the darkness? Can we see the opportunity to go within and create new dreams? Can we respect that our animal bodies need more rest, more nourishment, more time?
The veil is thin at Equinox time meaning the layer between our perceived physical world and the spiritual world is finer allowing us to receive or hear more clearly the information, guidance and support from the Universe, angels, ancestors and guides. It is a time to listen and let go. As you read this, can you check in with your own energy? How are you feeling? Does the cling to the literal and metaphorical forever summer resonate? Are you willing to take a step forward into the shedding? Are you willing to let go of the strong masculine energy (yang energy) of Summer and gracefully land in the feminine (yin energy) of Fall?
I feel myself fight it too, but when I check in, I feel my body’s desire for rest. I feel the tug of hot tea, journal pages, early bedtimes and warm socks. But most of all, I feel the desire to take inventory of this year’s harvest; to look at what I grew, what needs to be weeded and what new seeds do I wish to plant.
I wanted to offer a few prompts if you feel called to step into Fall intentionally too. Grab your journal and pen and let it flow:
What areas of your life feel unbalanced?
What needs to fall away?
What are the lessons of the past year can you harvest? (meaning enjoy and take with you)
What actions can you take to nourish the following:
-your body
-your mind
-your heart
I hope you can embrace this time of transition with your whole heart. Release your resistance and let in what is here. To fight or resist creates suffering. To allow and let in, produces ease.
Sending love and rest to you all. If you missed my last newsletter, here it is. A beautiful invitation to join me in Mexico in March ;)
Be well,
Ally xo
